Your Itinerary
Day One – Depart Inverness to Kirkwall
Our Orkney Islands tour begins as we depart Inverness and travel north, taking in sweeping views of the majestic Dunrobin Castle overlooking the Moray Firth. The journey continues along the legendary North Coast 500 to the UK mainland’s most northerly point, John O’Groats. Enjoy a stroll around this iconic landmark before we sail from Scrabster across the Pentland Firth to Orkney – keep an eye out for grey seals or even orcas along the way. In the afternoon, you will have free time to explore the vibrant town of Kirkwall. Wander its charming streets, discover local shops and cafés, and soak up the island atmosphere. We return to our accommodation in the late afternoon, giving you time to relax and reflect on the day’s adventures.

Day Two – Kirkwall, Ring of Brodgar, Skara Brae
Today we delve into the rich history and dramatic landscapes of the Orkney Islands. Our first stop is the Standing Stones of Stenness, thought to be the oldest stone circle in the British Isles at over 5,000 years old. We then continue to the ancient Ring of Brodgar, a magnificent monument that stands as a powerful reminder of Orkney’s prehistoric past.
Our journey continues to the world‑renowned Skara Brae, an exceptionally preserved Stone Age village offering a remarkable window into life more than 5,000 years ago. Prepare to be captivated by the rugged beauty of the Yesnaby Cliffs, famous for their dramatic sea stacks and, if luck is on your side, nesting puffins.
If tidal conditions allow, we will also visit the Brough of Birsay, a tidal island rich in archaeological remains and sweeping coastal views.

Day Three – Kirkwall to Inverness
Before we bid farewell to Orkney’s enchanting beauty, we visit a local farm for a firsthand encounter with the famous Mangalitsa pigs, renowned for their intriguing woolly coats and affectionately known as “hairy pigs”. Our journey continues as we explore the poignant Italian Chapel, a symbol of hope and resilience built by Italian prisoners of war during WWII.
After a morning of discovery, we board the ferry back to the mainland, where more adventures await. First, we feast our eyes on Duncansby Head, the northeastern tip of mainland Scotland, enjoying panoramic views over the North Sea. We journey to the picturesque village of Lybster, nestled on the rugged Caithness coast.
