Day One – Depart for Inverness

Begin your adventure with a scenic rail journey from your closest railway station to Inverness, travelling along the spine of Scotland on the wonderfully picturesque Highland Line. This iconic route winds through Perth and Pitlochry before climbing over the dramatic Cairngorm Mountains, offering sweeping views of forests, moorlands and rugged peaks.

On arrival in Inverness, we make our way to the welcoming Palace Hotel for a two‑night stay. Enjoy some free time to settle in and explore your new surroundings at leisure before coming together for our first evening meal as a group.

Day Two – Kyle Line

Today, we journey coast‑to‑coast on the remarkable Kyle Line, Scotland’s original “Great Railway Journey of the World.” This breathtaking route carries us through ever‑changing Highland scenery, across wide mountain plateaus and past shimmering lochs. Keep an eye out for wild deer on the hillsides, soaring eagles overhead, and even the unexpected palm trees that thrive in the charming village of Plockton.

As we approach the west coast, dramatic sea vistas open up before us, leading to our arrival at Kyle of Lochalsh. Here, we enjoy a light lunch at the renowned Kyle Hotel, with beautiful views across the water to the Isle of Skye. Afterward, we retrace our scenic route back to Inverness, soaking up the landscapes from a fresh perspective.

Day Three – Inverness to Fort William

This morning brings free time to enjoy Inverness, a compact and picturesque city with plenty to discover. You may wish to visit the impressive cathedral church, stroll between riverside cafés, or wander the historic Old Town before we depart by road. Our journey takes us along the shores of Loch Ness, where we pause for photographs, and perhaps a little monster spotting, before continuing through the beautiful Great Glen to Fort William.

On arrival, we check in to our hotel for our two night stay and come together this evening to enjoy dinner as a group.

Fort William

Day Four – Jacobite Steam Train

After breakfast, we embark on a truly magical rail journey aboard the magnificent Jacobite Steam Train, travelling along the famous “Road to the Isles.” Our route takes us across the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct, with sweeping views over Loch Shiel and the Bonnie Prince Charlie monument — a scene made world‑famous by the Harry Potter films.

We continue around the tranquil waters of Loch Eilt, home to pockets of ancient Caledonian Forest, before the landscape opens out onto the dazzling white sands of Morar, where distant views of the Isles of Eigg and Rum appear on the horizon. Our journey ends at the harbour village of Mallaig, overlooking the Isle of Skye, where we enjoy a sightseeing break to soak up the coastal scenery.

Later, we return to Fort William, arriving back in time to share our final evening meal together.

Jacobite Steam Train

Day Five – West Highland Line to Glasgow

After breakfast, we bid farewell to Fort William and board the train for a final journey along the stunning West Highland Line. This spectacular route carries us across the wild and remote expanse of Rannoch Moor before descending through dramatic Highland scenery toward Glasgow, where we connect with our homeward journeys.
