Beginning in the ancient walled city of Chester, before heading to historic York to walk the medieval lanes of The Shambles and discover the beautiful York Minster. Next is a scenic rail journey north along the coast to Edinburgh for some warm Scottish hospitality and a visit the magnificent Edinburgh Castle and Palace of Holyroodhouse. Be sure to indulge in a wee dram or try traditional haggis before your journey ends. Maybe combine this holiday with another rail journey to the Highlands or Isle of Skye.

Day 1 – Your journey begins in Chester

After checking in to your hotel begin exploring this historic city. Spend the afternoon walking the ancient city walls which are some of the most complete in Britain. Be sure to visit St Werburgh Street which offers amazing views of Chester Cathedral. (Overnight Chester)

Day 2 – Chester

Spend the day sightseeing with your hop-on hop-off pass which is included in your package. Discover the site of the ancient Roman ampitheatre, walk along the River Dee and through Grosvenor Park to experience the rich heritage and culture of this city. (Overnight Chester) B

Day 3 – York

York England

Today make your way to the historic city of York by train. Check into your hotel, then take a stroll around this glorious city. Make use of your sightseeing pass with a visit to the impressive York Minster. (Overnight York) B

Day 4 – York

Following breakfast at your hotel, continue to enjoy the sights of the city. Head down to the River Ouse for a scenic cruise, then make your way to the fascinating JORVIK Viking centre to experience what York was like in the time of the Vikings. (Overnight York) B

Day 5 – Edinburgh

After breakfast, take the train north to Edinburgh. Enjoy the spectacular coastal scenery as the train passes through Berwick-upon-Tweed and on arrival in the Scottish capital, make your way to your hotel for a two night stay. In the evening, take a stroll down the Royal Mile for a great selection of pubs, bars and restaurants, then be sure to visit Princes Street for a spot of shopping. (Overnight Edinburgh) B

Day 6 – Edinburgh

Explore the city with your Royal Edinburgh ticket included with your holiday. Be sure to visit the iconic Edinburgh Castle and take in the stunning views from the grounds. Visit the Queen’s official residence in Edinburgh, the Palace of Holyrood House, and not to be missed is the Royal Yacht Britannia docked in Leith. (Overnight Edinburgh) B

Day 7 – Your journey ends in Edinburgh

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before making your way to the station for your train back to your local station. B
